Air-to-air heat exchangers can be integrated with the air conditioning systems. They use exhaust air to pre-condition the incoming air, thus reducing the cooling or heating load and the overall as size of the required air conditioning systems.
Heat Recovery ventilation systems simultaneous air exhaust and supply air provides effective ventilation. Conventional ventilators (ie. Extract propellor fans) do not work effectively within air tight buildings because of the negative air pressures involved.
